Very nice questions ty!This is still kind of ambiguous though:

Does this mean the opposing gladiators can still use their abilities when attacking Oenomaus' team mate?

No ambiguity. What you suggest is impossible to enforce (when is one or the other player being attacked? proximity??) Being on the opposite team is the intention as stated.

For example Oenomaus is paired with Spartacus versus Gannicus and Raskos.During the initiative roll, Raskos normally automatically wins but because of Oenomaus he cannot use his Rabid ability.
When Gannicus takes his turn, if he attacks Oenomaus, obviously the Doctore rule negates Gannicus from using his Relentless ability. The ambiguous part is when Gannicus attacks Spartacus.
On 1 hand it could be argued that only Oenomaus personally knows all the weaknesses of every gladiator so Doctore rule only applies when they directly attack him. On the other hand maybe he instructed his team mate before the primus, thereby transferring the Doctore ability to him as well.
I guess it is simpler and more uniform if Oenomaus negates all abilities on the opposing team for the entire duration of the arena phase with no exceptions (except for The Murderer of course).

Hi, I just started to learn the rules, and I have a few question.English is not my first language, so I want to be sure.
When my gladiator wins a game, he gets a favor token, and I get an Influence.
If my gladiator becomes to a champion, do I get another Influence? Cause I already got one for the victory.

Yes, you got 1 Influence for winning the combat, plus 1 Influence for getting a champion.

He keeps his titles until he dies.

In our last game we knew a player would win in the arena phase because he would host the game as he had over 50 gold. We had stopped him the turn before by everyone giving their gold to one person. This allowed in the intrigue phase for another player to reach 12 the rest of us then worked to get another to 12 and have the arena fight off.↧

by PandaBall
One of the Gladiators is allowed to use two weapons. Ie Trident and sword. Now trident allows you to hit at range 2 but sword allows re-rolls of 1's. My question if at range 2 do i get the sword re-rolls or must i be at range 1?↧

Rerolls at range 2 I'd plump for.↧

Yes. Previous questions about weapon combinations have been answered this way (spear and sword, for example). You get the benefit of both items, regardless of range and other factors.

In a Primas, you still have to decide who you attack, so only two fighters ever throw dice :)
I do like the blue die variant mind you :D

Yes one weapon joins to the other, so a sword becomes a range two weapon! :wow:

This sound like a lot of meta-gaming and crowning just to be sure the game end on a duel...
... why dont just play duel with the miniature without getting bothered with the intrigue phase at all ?

Thanks I suspected it had been asked but it difficult to track down.Today our game was won because two players were on 11 I was on 10 and another 9. We were able to make certain that the 9 player got the host I then played a primus card so he went to 11. He then picked me on his side. I deliberately allowed the opponents to knock out my partner but still ended up beating the other two so the host won with 12-11-10-10.

I think this collection completely mixes up base game and expansion. It would be nice, if you could use appropriate forums for the appropriate questions, so that an owner of only the base game, must not look up the whole game material, only to find out, that there is no "Varinius" or "Sedullus".↧

Thread: Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery:: Variants:: Gladiator competition
by PandaBall
After our last game of Spartacus someone said would it be interesting to see which is the best Gladiator. So I set about working a competition out. First I used the Tier system which as already been posted adding the extra Gladiators from the expansion.I play tested it solitaire and Grannicus beat the Egyptian in a very close final.
Starting Gladiators,
Tier 1Name Attack Defense Speed Gold Value Special
Syrian Warrior 2 2 3 2 Starting Gladiator (2 copies)
Gaul Warrior 2 3 2 2 Starting Gladiator (2 copies)
Thracian Warrior 3 2 2 2 Starting Gladiator (5 copies)
Numidian Warrior 3 1 3 2 Starting Gladiator (2 copies)
Tier 2 Gladiators
1. Auctus 3 3 2 2 INITIATE: Once per match, force your opponent to reroll a dice your choice.
2. Duro 3 2 3 2 BROTHERHOOD: If one of your gladiators is killed, you may discard Duro instead.
3. Kerza 3 3 2 2 INITIATE: Once per match, you may force your opponent to reroll a dice of your choice.
Tier 3 gladiators
1. Acer3 3 3 3 DEFIANT: May not be exhausted or injured, for any reason. Treat an arena injury as yield.
2. Gnaeus 3 3 3 3 CRUEL: Defeated Opponents are auto Injured.
3. Lugo 3 3 3 3 BOISTEROUS: Exhaust at any time to refresh one of your uninjured Gladiators or slaves.
4. Othos 3 3 3 3 OVERATED: Receives a favour token when revealed in auction.
5. Rhaskos3 3 3 3 RABID: In combat, always goes 1st. Do not roll for initiative. In a Primus, his team goes 1st with him acting 1st.
6. Varro 3 3 3 4 GAMBLER: When any Combatant, at any time, loses 3 dice to an attack, gain 1 Gold.
Tier 4 gladiators
1. Agron 3 4 3 4 COUNTER ATTACK: Def triples cause one auto-wound to Attacker.
2. Ashur 3 3 2 4 CUNNING & TREACHEROUS: Exhaust to reduce a Scheme's required Influence by 2. May join opposing side during Primus.
3. Barca 4 3 3 4 AGILE: When defending, may roll speed dice instead of defense.
4. Dagan 3 4 3 3 HARDENED: Defense triples block all attacks.
5. Pericles 4 3 3 4 TACTICIAN: May reroll initiative (all dice)
6. Segovax 4 3 3 4 TREACHEROUS: May join opposing side during Primus.
7. Sedullus4 4 2 4 BRUTAL: When attacking, may re-roll all 1’s
8. The Thing in the Pit 4 3 3 4 MERCILESS: Defeated opponents are auto-decapitated.
9. The Murderer 4 3 3 4 RUTHLESS: May be equipped with 2 weapons may not use Armour. Immune to ‘DOCTORE’ rule.
Tier 5 gladiators
1. Caburus5 3 3 5 SADISTIC: After inflicting 3 or more wounds with a single attack, recover 1 lost attribute
2. Crixus 4 4 3 5 IMPERVIOUS: Defense doubles add one auto-block.
3. Oenomaus 4 3 4 4 DOCTORE: Opposing gladiators special ability is negated.
Tier 6 gladiators
1. Egyptian 4 5 3 5 UNSTOPPABLE: May always move up to 3 hexes
2. Gannicus 4 4 4 5 RELENTLESS: When attacking, wins ties.
3. Spartacus 4 4 4 5 VENGEFUL: Attack doubles add one auto-wound.
4. Theokeles 5 5 2 5
Some abilities are not much use in this game.
I then seeded them using 25 named Gladiators and 7 starting to give 32. I have added the seeding and Tiering system below. In fight each Gladiator have 3 items chosen at random (1 armour, 1 weapon 1 special exc the one who as 2 weapons). If opponent is of higher tier player may chose one item for each tier difference. Ie T4 v T2 the T2 can chose 2 of his 3.
Each player does not control a particular Gladiator but instead represents punters betting on the outcome. Each starts with 30 gold they them bet on each outcome as in the game max 3x3=9 gold. The object of the game is to be the most successful punter.

Thread: Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery:: Rules:: One use by turn Dominus power
by IKerensky
Hi,I noticed that the first power of the 2 new families is limites to once by turn. I wonder if the same limitation shouldn't apply to the first power of the basic game families.
I think it would balance them better, Glaber wont be so much advantaged, Batiatus not so weak in regards.
Opinions ?
